The intimate atmosphere of the candlelit church prepares listeners for a special listening experience; sitting extremely close to the source of the sounds - right on top of the pipes as it were - they experience how eloquent the king of instruments can be. How finely the individual pipes differ in their vowel colouring and production of consonants when they speak! The sound is animated by a "breathing wind". Touchingly tender flute tones cause one to turn inward, to listen to the voices of the heart.
... an impressive musical mind at work, with interpretations that are convincing. In addition to the musical qualities demonstrated in his Bach CD, Liebig here reveals an impressive virtuosity, notably in the Luython and Aguilera works...

The works recorded here originate from about that period when the Martini organ in Groningen was at the peak of its long history of development (1691-1740). After Jürgen Ahrend's (Leer-Loga) excellent restoration in 1976/77 and 1983/84, this remarkable organ once again creates an overwhelming impression in the fantastic acoustical environment of the nave. The present recording attempts to do it as much justice as possible.
Sinikka Langeland and Andreas Liebig recorded the Christmas concert Stjerneklang at the Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim - one of the most important pilgrimage goals in Europe since the Middelages. Also the old Christmas hymns like e.g. Puer natus, In dulci jubilo and Vom Himmel hoch have migrated throughout Europe for over a thousand years and become a part of Norwegian folk tradition.
